Remember to check out my book: http://bit.ly/billsbook .

This is an introductory piano tutorial for players who want to learn a bit about the cocktail piano style (sometimes called lounge or lounge bar piano).

This is quite a cool style to try, because it’s fun to play, and although it can sound very slick and impressive it’s not actually that difficult. As I say in the tutorial, the main thing is to know your chords well, and feel comfortable with all the different inversions under your fingers on the piano keyboard.

Once you know your chords – and we’re talking things like major and minor sevenths, as well as the basic triads – it’s quite easy to put together improvisations at the keyboard. Cocktail piano is typical very relaxed, so you can take your time and don’t have to worry about being tied to a very firm beat.

If you have any comments or questions on this, or on any of my other piano tutorial videos, don’t hesitate to ask!
