The work he is talking about is “Standing Stone” written in 1997. It was McCartney’s second classical work, following “Liverpool Oratorio.” Although “Standing Stone” uses a chorus, it is largely an orchestral work. I recommend a later work, “Ocean’s Kingdom.” It is his one and only ballet, commissioned by the NYC Ballet. The music is closely written around a single three-note theme, and explores several moods and colors with this motif.
